All Things Bridal with Laura Steyn

An electric cake & champagne moment to accompany us as we talk bridal trends, surprise style tips and need-to-know insight for your dream dress quest.

Champagne, cake and a couple of besties talking all things bridal.

Many of us grow up dreaming of our wedding. We have pretend engagements and weddings on the playground (I had at least two in elementary school on the giant stegosaurus), we pick out our dream dresses, have Pinterest boards and make pacts to marry our best guy or girl friend if we are both single at the age of 35 because 35 seems an impossible lifetime away when you are 16. Weddings are simply a fixation for many from a young age into adulthood and well beyond our own wedding experiences. Weddings are rare and romantic and foreign, and even if we have dreamt of our own for decades, the event, the planning and the dress are something out of an unfamiliar fairytale… something we wish upon a star for, but do not fully understand.

Personally, I have not been married. I was engaged once upon a time, but that was a different version of me and more than a lifetime ago. Yes, I have been to many weddings and been a part of a handful of bridal parties. But in terms of the bridal world and wedding dresses (beyond my own Pinterest board) I have no clue what I am talking about. So I have enlisted the help of my dear, darling friend, Laura Steyn and her expertise as a bridal stylist.

Laura Steyn, the queen of tulle and basque waists.

Laura’s love for bridal is unmatched. Her enchantment with weddings and big white dresses goes as far back as she can remember, proof of which can be found in her go-to childhood statement piece. A dreamy replica of one of the most famous weddings imaginable. At the tender age of about 5, Laura watched with awe, the wedding of Lady Diana to Prince Charles, and of course fell head over heels for the ivory, silk taffeta and antique lace gown. With an endless 25 foot train and 153 yards of  tulle for the veil, it was simply love at first sight. From that moment on, Laura was hooked. She implored her grandmother to recreate the dress for her – perfectly fluffy and puffy in all the right places and exactly what her daily wardrobe needed. This dress would go on to be known as the beginning of Laura’s love affair with bridal.

Since the days of childhood dress-up, Laura has worked in several bridal boutiques and offers a bespoke experience for anyone in the market for a wedding dress. Her expertise covers everything from final fittings to designer relationships, and her unique insight covers valuable tips and tricks for not only those about to walk down the isles, but anyone in need of some fashion-faux-pas fixes – Such as placing a pastie (typically used to cover nipples) over your navel to create a seamless look in a silk, curve draping dress. I wish I had known this sooner!
