August 2026 Vol. Nº33

August, it seems, is an effortless season, one that inspires daydreams to wander into fantastic adventures, transforming simple moments into wild tales of frolicking escapades, leaving us dipped in a golden haze of memories that seem to linger longer than the rest. This is the undeniable quality of summer – A unique world that forms under the blaze of golden light, thriving within the heat that sticks to us like honey. This is where I am reminded to slow down and savor the sacred moments that belong solely to the end of summer. To breathe in the heat of the days, mesmerized by the sun-drenched beauty of the season, qualities that can only exist in the fever dream that is August.Xx

Summertime Frolics

To dream of August is to dream of golden light and heat drenched evenings. It is a time made special by a culmination of summertime joys and the sweet sense of everlasting memories, a collection of perfect picture-book moments to forever riffle through, a chance to spark laughter and delight in souvenirs of a time once thoroughly enjoyed. This is where the inspiration for Le Supper Club begins, in the memories that feel like a favorite book read over and over again. The moments that feel like coming home.

Badminton and a Golden Hour Dinner

Summertime has a wonderful alluring quality. Saturated with impossible charms and a twinge of romance, it seems to constantly invite one to frolic within its world of painted whimsy and vibrant escapades, a reminder to forget, for a moment, the burden of cares and worries, slipping into a time and space that moves like warm honey. When experienced to its fullest, summer is a land of adventure, a place that seems to possess built-in tableaus that are perfectly imperfect with endless sunkissed moments and golden coated scenes – Settings that inspire a scribble on the back of a post card, a memento designed to last forever. This is the way that I fall in love with summer. In the moments that feel like slices of art, painted in a frenzy and yet executed with skill and intention. Scenes that capture the beautiful essence of a summer’s soirée, a moment of perfect light forever on hold, the memory of dripping gelato on an evening stroll and the sensation of a salty sea swim that lingers on one's skin. This is how I hold onto summer. How I inspire my world when not on a magnificent holiday. A memory of a time that I forever endeavor to bring to life.

Poolside Corndogs and Sundaes

Doused in childlike delight, I find myself reminiscing on moments of my childhood that have somehow shaped me in a way that nothing else has. Summer seems to be special that way. I often find myself wishing for home videos of these moments that play in my mind. A string of memories that in some ways feel so very far off and out of focus and yet so real I can actually sense them. The afternoons running through sprinklers in the front yard and the sting of my first failed dive off of the diving board. Days spent on the lake or at the river, the taste of mom’s homemade sandwich, made just the way I like it, tucked safely in the red igloo cooler and waiting for me. The very specific smell of hot dogs and hamburgers cooking on a little Weber charcoal grill and the sticky mess of summer time desserts. These are some of my most vivid young memories. The ones that should be faded and torn around the edges, but somehow feel impossibly sharp and forever shaping my ideals of summer.

Picnic Like an Italian

I fell in love with Italy over summer a couple of years ago. It was not all at once as I expected, but rather, quiet and subtle. A bit like falling into the pages of a holiday worthy book, I found myself curious and admiring the way that I felt while there. Wandering and exploring a series of charming cities, the country began to gently tug at my heartstrings. I began to flirt with the little things that I found impossibly picturesque, discovering pockets around Portofino that swept me off my feet and then suddenly, I found myself head over heels with a quiet countryside village where time felt as though it had nearly stopped. I had stumbled into a novel worthy summertime fling and I was madly in love. Smitten and giddy, I couldn’t help but begin to dream of future summers in Puglia, longing to wander through Rome and Milan, imagining adventures to the Amalfi Coast… I had fallen into a new love affair – summertime in Italy.

Homemade Corn Dogs

Ingredients

  • 2 cups gluten free (or regular) flour

  • 2 cup gluten free corn meal

  • 8 teaspoons baking power

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 cups milk

  • ½ cup honey (can substitute sugar if you prefer)

  • Cooking oil (I use canola oil)

  • Wooden 7” carmel apple sticks

  • 12 hebrew national hot dogs (or preferred hot dogs)

  • Quart sized mason jar or large cup

  • Thermometer for the oil

(Makes 12, recipe can be cut in half)

Method

In a mixing bowl, combine your dry ingredients. Add in milk, eggs and honey and mix until fully combined. Pour into your quart sized mason jar and cover. Not all of the batter will fit – add remaining batter to another smaller jar and reserve to fill the larger jar as you make your corn dogs. *Make your batter ahead of time! I like to do mine the night before. The batter gets nice and hydrated this way and you will have a fluffier coating for your corn dogs, and when fully chilled the batter coats the hot dog better.

Heat oil to 375ºF in a large heavy bottom pot, such as a large dutch oven. While oil is heating, push each hot dog onto a stick and pat dry well, lay them out so you can easily grab them. Once oil is hot, dip 2-3 hot dogs into the batter to fully coat and carefully lay them down into the hot oil (be sure to monitor heat through this whole process). Allow them to fry for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, gently moving them around in the oil as they cook to get an even color. Remove from oil and allow to drain and rest on a plate covered with a few paper towels. Repeat the process until all corn dogs are fried. Serve with mustard (and ketchup if you must) and enjoy the best corn dogs of your life!
